History

Our founder, Mother Lena Barbour, established this church as the King’s Apostle Holiness Church of God (KAHC) in Johnsontown, West Virginia in 1934.

In 1937, Earnest Eugene Baltimore became a member of the local Johnsontown assembly. Under the guidance and tutorship of Bishop Walter Campher and Mother Barbour, he held such positions as Junior Trustee, Deacon, and Local Elder.

In August 1948, Elder Baltimore was installed as the Pastor of the Johnsontown church. He was a kind, compassionate, loving, and progressive man of God. He was indeed a man after God’s heart as he enjoyed working with everyone. His life exemplified how Christ wanted us to live.

In 1958, Elder Baltimore was consecrated and ordained to the Office Of Bishop, and he was appointed the Vice-President of King’s Apostle Holiness Church of God Movement. Soon after, he became the President & Chief Apostle for the Movement.

As membership increased in Johnsontown, Bishop Baltimore went on a “mission” throughout the area in search of a more appropriate worship facility. On May 29, 1960, the groundbreaking ceremony was held at this current location, 513 West Third Avenue in Ranson. KAHC became the first and continues to remain the only African American Church in the city of Ranson.

Later in 1999, the church was re-dedicated as the “Baltimore Temple” to honor our beloved Bishop E. Eugene Baltimore. On September 10 1999, God called Bishop Baltimore unto Himself for a much-deserved rest from his labor.

Bishop Sterling Vernon Porter, III, was installed as Interim-Pastor in November 1999. A year later, he was officially installed as the Senior Pastor. Under his leadership, the Baltimore Temple’s membership has increased with 183 new members. In addition, many organizations and ministries have been structured to assist in meeting the needs of the church and the community. Currently, we have maximized our present location. We are seeking God’s path in directing us to build a new worship facility that can seat 500-750 members and able to facilitate a day care center, community-life center, senior center, and in-house sports center.

Baltimore Temple is also the Headquarters for the King’s Apostle Church World Ministries 2nd Episcopal Diocese which encompasses the churches within Pennsylvania and West Virginia Districts.

The Lord continues to bless and watch over Baltimore Temple, as we continue to Extend God’s Kingdom and Fulfill His Purpose.
